Museum of engineering history
Museum of engineering history is a unit of the Department of Philosophy, Sociology and History of Voronezh state technical university that collects, stores and exhibits materials on the history and work of the university, as well as its structural units. The main goal is visual study of the history of education in the Voronezh region on the example of the largest university, as well as dissemination of knowledge not only among students and employees of the university, but also third-party visitors.
The Museum is located in 4 rooms: VGASU History Museum is located at 20-letiya Oktyabrya, 84, room 5308. A stock storage area is adjacent to the museum. VSTU History Museum is located at Moskovskiy Prospect, 14, room 114. There are two halls there.
The Museum funds are: 2950 items of the main fund, 594 items of the auxiliary scientific collection.
The most valuable items in the collection: albums on the history of departments and faculties of the university 1970s-2000s, photos and negatives that show professors, students, and graduates from different years (including rare photos from the 1920s and 1940s).), technical papers on the construction of university buildings, memoirs of participants of the Great Patriotic War, private archives (including the well-known Voronezh architects), scientific works of professors (including dissertations of professors in the 1930s and 1950s).), materials on the activities of student teams (reports from different years, badges, uniforms, etc.), materials on the activities of KVN and the VISI theater in Voronezh, personal materials (certificates, letters, memoirs, mandates, party membership cards, Komsomol membership cards, trade-union cards , etc.); periodical and non-periodical publications of the university, sports cups, finds from The Great Patriotic War, awards, souvenirs, gifts to the university on anniversaries and memorable dates, etc.
The Museum of engineering history is a special form of social life of the flagship university. During more than 40-years of its history, the museum maintains a close connection not only with education and science, but also occupies an important place in the civic and patriotic education of young people in the region. The museum staff annually organizes lectures on the history of the university, as well as sightseeing and thematic excursions for schoolchildren, students, and guests of the university.
The mission of the Museum of engineering history is positioning the university as an educational institution that honors and preserves the heritage of science and education, contributes to the preservation of historical memory and the formation of historical consciousness of VSTU students and professors through museum funds.
The goals of creating and developing The Museum of engineering history: to contribute to the formation of an innovative cultural and information environment for solving the problems of branding policy and positioning of the university, through the creation of a modern model of the museum and the organization of widely accessible to museum collections, civic and patriotic education of young people by museum means.
The Museum is currently being reorganized. By December it is planned to complete the development of the design project of the new Museum. Meanwhile the concept of "Modernization of the traditional space of “the Museum of engineering history” into a Single Cultural and Informational Museum Center for Civil and Patriotic education of the Central Black Earth Region" is being developed.
The goal of the project: to contribute to the formation of an innovative cultural and information environment for solving the problems of branding policy and positioning of Voronezh state technical university as a flagship university of the Central Black Earth Region through the creation of a modern Single Cultural and Informational Museum center bringing together members of the Museum community in the region that will enable the realization of the RF Government Decision of 30 December 2015 №1493 “About a government program “Patriotic education of citizens of the Russian Federation for 2016-2020” .
Single Cultural and Informational Center will function with the following sections:
- The Museum of engineering history (permanent exhibition)
- Exhibition department (organization of exhibitions)
- A stock storage area and a storage department
- Laboratory of museology and museum-technical design
- Cultural and educational centre (“Tour guides school” and “Museum design”, etc.)
- Museum internet center
- Museum and pedagogical centre
- Visit centre
Therefore, The Museum of engineering history is actively developing and facing the future.
