Between 25 and 29 January Voronezh State Technical University hosted a traditional Friendship Cup mini-football tournament between teams of international students. Sixty students from Egypt, Cote d'Ivoire, Turkmenistan, the Republic of the Congo, the Republic of Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan took part in the event.
During the first stage of the tournament teams were divided into two groups. Each team played one match against other teams in their group, receiving different points for a win, draw or loss. Two teams from each group with the highest scores moved to the second stage of the tournament to join the fight for medals and the main trophy of the tournament - Friendship Cup.
Student teams from Cote d'Ivoire, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and Tajikistan were chosen as semi-finalists. After the finals judges distributed prizes and determined the winner of the Friendship Cup tournament.
The team of students from Turkmenistan took the third place. Students from Cote d'Ivoire won silver. The team of Guinea-Bissau won the first prize and the Friendship Cup. In a close final match the team beat Cote d'Ivoire 2-1.
Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of VGTU Anton M. Khodunov and Deputy Director of the Institute of International Education of VGTU Pavel N. Zaitsev congratulated the tournament organizers and participants and thanked them for their contribution to the event. They awarded the winners a well-deserved Friendship Cup. All participants of the tournament received certificates and valuable prizes.
It should be noted that the tournament was held in compliance with the requirements established by special recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor for organizations of higher education and professional educational institutions to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.
